The Eight Things You Should Know About Creating A Direct Mail Campaign
- Design the direct mail post card with an "eye-catching quality photo."
- Determine what you are offering and who the potential target market will be.
- Purchase or consolidate an up-to-date bona fide target audience mailing list. Why? Because you want to avoid sending a card to someone who no longer works for that particular company or, even worse, to someone who's deceased.
- Use your company's "branded look" (logo and color scheme) throughout the direct mail piece. People will come to recognize you and it will make you stand out from the competition.
- Your message should be clear, concise and to the point. Avoid the urge for wordiness and braggadocio. Be prepared to validate any statements with documented facts.
- Personalize every aspect of the piece wherever possible. Statistics show that people respond better to personalized messages.
- Give the recipient multiple ways to contact you: an 800# where available, Phone, Fax, Web Site, E-mail Address, etc. And include an attached BRC (Business Reply Card).
- Send out your direct mail piece at a reduced rate by taking advantage of postal regulations and bulk rates. Check these out before you design your mail piece. There are certain requirements you need to meet on address labeling.
